Who are you kidding Mr T

The reputation of the Thai government has been sullied by the airport scanner deal in which the American contractor has admitted to paying a bride. The PM has said they must withdraw this allegation as it is untrue and defamation of Thai business.

Who do you believe?

Paying a bribe in Thailand? Impossible! ;-)

This story keeps rolling despite several attempts to stop it. I find it unbelievable that no independent inquiry has been set up. That is the least that should be done. Mt T’s assertion that he is declaring war on corruption loses all credibility when you look at how this case has been handled. Well it certainly does to any non-Thai!

From todays Bangkok Post the link to the US Gov. document on the case: Interesting!

Thaksin's reluctance to set up an independent inquiry is tantamount to admitting corruption. One of the problems with "Democracy" in Thailand is the number of dodgy MP's needed in any one party to maintain a house majority. Most of the "old school" politicians here have made their fortunes through corruption (in business; military; state authorities; etc)and will jump ship to any party that lets them put their snouts in the trough for more.
This has been the case for decades; and it still astounds me that the seeming majority of Thais, and the Thai press are so surprised by it all.
A lot of the locals would "wai" the devil himself, if he climbed out of a black Mercedes; oblivious to the fact that he's funnelling their money into his own (Swiss) bank account. Its obviously not the Thai way to criticise, or to stop licking the boot thats kicking you.

Of course there was a bribe paid. Bribes are endemic in international business. Get over it. My father worked in overseas marketing and sales for Raytheon. No contracts were obtainable in foreign countries without paying bribes. The fact that Thailand engages in corrupt business practises is not interesting--what is interesting however is that they are so clumsy at it. They always get caught. The are inept at everything. Even stealing.

Actually, them getting caught out regularly for corruption may be a good sign of a Thai populace and press becoming more vigilant about their elected leaders business practices.
Hopefully.
